What does it mean to set Healthy Boundaries with Spirit and People

When was the last time you truly thought about your boundaries, not just with people, but with Spirit too? Most of us are taught to set limits with others in the physical world, but when it comes to the spirit realm, many of us jump in open-hearted and wide open... sometimes too open. The truth is: healthy energetic boundaries are essential for anyone working with intuitive energy, spirit communication, or even just trying to stay grounded in their day-to-day life.
Let’s explore why setting boundaries with Spirit is just as important as setting them with humans—and how to start doing it in a loving, intentional way.
Nighttime Is Sacred: Shut Down the Channel
One of my favorite practices is imagining a light switch or pull cord when I go to bed. Just like you turn off a lamp before going to sleep, I mentally turn off my energetic channel.

This tells Spirit: "You are welcome to gently join me in my dreams, but you don’t get to wake me up."
When I started this work, I would hear stories all the time—"Spirits wake me up at 3:00 AM!" My first question is always: Do you want that? If the answer is no, then it’s time to call your power back. Because you get to choose what kind of communication you allow and when it happens.
Morning Reset: Invite in What Serves Your Highest Good
In the morning, I like to say: "Spirit, move me today for my highest good and my highest good only." It’s a simple phrase, but it sets the tone for the entire day. It creates an energetic filter, a boundary, a container for how Spirit can engage with me—and how I engage with others.

This isn’t about being controlling. It’s about being intentional. When you declare your intentions each morning, you create space for positive energy while keeping out what doesn’t serve you.
You Decide the Conversation
The key message I want you to remember is this: You decide.
You decide:
When spirit communication happens
Where it happens
What kind of messages you’re available for
Whether those messages support your growth—or create unnecessary overwhelm
For example, I’ve heard from people who receive dreams about how someone died but can’t do anything with that information. If it doesn’t serve your highest good, it’s okay to set a boundary.

You’re not less spiritual for doing so. You’re more empowered. Spirituality should feel like an uplifting experience, not a burdensome chore.
Rituals That Support Boundaries
Here are a few of my favorite ways to integrate healthy boundaries into everyday life:
Turn off the light at night as a symbol of closing the channel
Open the drapes each morning and say three things you’re grateful for
Start your day with a prayer or phrase that welcomes only what supports your highest and best
Designate sacred spaces for spiritual work—like a desk or chair where you receive messages only when you sit down with intention
Say your intention aloud when you’re walking, journaling, or even driving—whenever it feels right
Even if you forget for a day... or three weeks... that’s okay. Start again when you remember. No shame. No guilt. No spiraling.
Spiritual Growth Doesn’t Have to Be Heavy
Boundaries are important—but they don’t have to feel heavy. Let them be playful, like spirit is nudging you with a little wink. Let them be empowering. Let them be yours.
So take a moment today. Ask yourself: What healthy boundary do I want to create—either with spirit or with people? Write it down. Speak it aloud. Start the conversation.

You’re not doing this for anyone else. You’re doing it for your highest good and your highest good only.
